I've created this page because I've become frustrated and fed up with the out-of-control lowering of speed limits in Victoria.

What is the real agenda, road safety or blatent revenue raising? The government claims that lower speed limits are saving lives. But no reference has been given to the major improvements in vehical safety. Surely a large part of the reduction is due to cars with electronic stability control, air bags, ABS, or are these features just there for looks?

I feel that I'm not alone in this, so join me in campaining for sensible speed limits that allow a resonable balance between safety and mobilty

What inspired me to get started. This story printed in The Age this morning detailing how a group calling themselves the "Safe Speed Interest Group" are campaining to have blanket 40km/h speed limits imposed in Melbourne, including the use of 30k/hr zones... Well I may as well get out and push! This is just getting rediculous!

Read the story here: http://www.theage.com.au/national/push-to-slash-speed-limit-to-40kmh-20081114-66ml.html

There are a whole meriad of rediculous speed limits in Victoria. One example is a 4 lane each way section of the Calder Hwy limited to 80km/h!!! With not a single traffic light in sight! What is the real objective here, to raise revenue?

Now don't get me wrong, this is not about driving fast everywhere, there are ares such as busy shopping strips and outside schools where slower spead limits are well and trully waranted. But a 4 lane each way hwy with no intersection! Come on guys! Next we'll have to wear helmets in cars and wrap our bumpers in bubble wrap!
